SINCE 2008 Olivier Assayas Cartes blanches cinéastes CINEMA
Each year, the Théâtre de Gennevilliers opens its doors to two film-makers, each of whom takes a fresh, individual look at theatre, urban life, and film. Immersed in the life of Gennevilliers, each is given carte blanche to shoot and produce a work of cinema taking any form they choose, from documentary to fiction, or any combination of these and other forms or genres. In 2008, Shinji Aoyama and Jean-Paul Civeyrac filmed Le Petit chaperon rouge and Malika s’est envolée. Their films were shown in Gennevilliers, Miami and Locarno. This year, Olivier Assayas welcomes Bertrand Bonello and Lodge Kerrigan to Gennevilliers. With Cartes blanches, filmmakers subvert the daily life of a parisian suburb, through the powerful, creative medium of film.
