In France and worldwide

The Théâtre de Gennevilliers's determination to establish itself as an open platform for artistic innovation and world cultures is reflected in a wide range of events in France and worldwide throughout the 2009-10 season.

Building on its existing links with artists from Japan (Shinji Aoyama, Oriza Hirata, Toshiki Okada) and the US (John Malpede), the theatre is once again exploring links with and between these two countries.
The 2009-10 season brings a number of US artists to Gennevilliers – from film-maker Lodge Kerrigan to stage director Young Jean Lee and the Nature Theater of Oklahoma – together with Japanese visual and sound artist Ryoji Ikeda.

Pascal Rambert has also visited Houston, Texas, where he staged a production of Lully's opera Armide with the Mercury Baroque ensemble conducted by Antoine Plante. In autumn 2009, Pascal Rambert will present two plays in Tokyo (L’art du théâtre and De mes propres mains/solo), as a guest of the Komaba-Agora Theatre and its director Oriza Hirata. The visit heralds productions by the Théâtre de Gennevilliers in a number of Japanese cities throughout 2010, notably Rambert's newest work, Une (micro) histoire économique du monde, dansée, which will be premiered in France in January 2010, directed by Rambert himself with three young assistant directors from Japan.

In 2009-2010, the theatre will continue its collaboration with Geneva's Grütli theatre, which partnered the Très Jeunes Créateurs Contemporains festival in Gennevilliers in June 2009. Two works by Pascal Rambert (De mes propres mains/solo and Libido Sciendi ) will be presented in Geneva, following their extensive French tours in 2008 (Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux, etc).

In May 2010, Pascal Rambert's solo work for Tamara Bacci will be premiered and co-produced as part of the cross-border festival EXTRA 10 organised by Bonlieu - Scène Nationale d’Annecy and the ADC in Geneva.

The international programme at the Théâtre de Gennevilliers is supported by CULTURESFRANCE, the Cultural Services of the French embassies in Tokyo, New York and Houston, the Japan Foundation, Etant Donnés (The French American fund for the Performing Arts - a program of FACE), the Institut Franco-Japonais in Tokyo, and the Institut Franco-Japonais in Kyoto – the Villa Kujoyama. It is made possible thanks to collaboration with the Agora Theatre in Tokyo,  FIAF – French Institute/Alliance Française in New York and the Festival d’Automne, Paris..
