"I really feel I'm a cinema actress at heart; I find it hard to think about acting on stage. Not that I'm trying to run away from it, but I have a real personal problem with the idea of being the centre of attention on stage, with people watching me. In the cinema, it's very different. People are always surprised when I say this, but in the cinema everyone's busy doing their thing when the cameras are rolling, everyone has something to do. And it's true that in the theatre, the idea of all that attention focused on me is a serious problem. PS: I often find it hard to become engrossed in a play in the theatre, it really has to be quite exceptional for me to get swept along with it. I admit to getting bored in the theatre, whereas I am seldom bored watching a film." Catherine Deneuve

Spread over three days at the Théâtre de Gennevilliers, Le festival offers a programme of outstanding shows and artists' performances that have achieved prominence over the past year in France and worldwide. Selected recent and new pieces explore a shared perspective or theme, a common critical or aesthetic approach, a distinctive social stance. Applications are invited from dance/performance/video/theatre/music projects: closing date January 30, 2010. Laurent Goumarre is a journalist and critic of art and literature. He produces the early evening programme on French public radio's cultural network, France Culture, and contributes to journals including Artpress, Danser and OffShore.
