 | | | | Valérie Jouve is an artist. An artist who sees the world y interacting with it. With people. With you.
She believes that to take a photograph, you first have to experience an encounter.
And vice versa.
When Valérie came to the théâtre2gennevilliers, she encountered a community, people. Life.
| She took pictures. Pictures of encounters. With the people of Gennevilliers and creative artists. Film-makers. Choreographers. Passers-by. All the people that make a community. You. Us. Ordinary people, extraordinary people. Living people. Now you can see Valérie's photogaphs, too. On the street, at the theatre, in your hands, before your eyes.
At the théâtre2gennevilliers there's always so much more than you expect. |
Valérie Jouve Photographs. Gennevilliers 2007. | | Valérie Jouve is a video artist and photographer born in 1964, in Saint-Etienne. Focusing on portraits and urban contexts, her pictures capture moments suspended in time – seemingly banal events of everyday life, like people heading home from the office. Her work features in numerous institutions and collections all over the world.
| | | | Valérie Jouve: 'Our relationship to an image contains a host of different meanings. Like how we can be heroes in our own time. I believe that the histories of our lives are contained as much within our bodies as elsewhere (…) This is what I want to reflect and bring to the viewer. Today's world.'
